Shehbaz Sharif presides over first parliamentary party meeting

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 17 : Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and Pakistan's Punjab province Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday chaired his first parliamentary party meeting.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and around 120 lawmakers of the party graced occasion with their presence, reported Geo TV.

During the meeting, lawmakers informed Shehbaz of the issues faced by them.

They also dwelled upon "negative atmosphere", which was created following former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's statement on the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the report quoted anonymous sources, as saying.

The PML-N president promised to take their grievances to party quaid Nawaz Sharif.
While addressing the meeting, Shehbaz touted that its party PML-N fulfilled "all" its promises and propagated an era of development in its tenure.

In addition to this, he ensured that the party will take their achievements to the electorate during the upcoming general elections.

Pakistan is likely to hold its general elections on July 27. President Mamnoon Hussain will formally announce the date for elections next week.

The Pakistan constitution states that elections for the national and provincial assemblies are to be held within 60 days following the day the term of the assemblies expires.

The five-year constitutional term of the national and Punjab assemblies will end on May 31, while the assemblies for the provinces Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will complete their terms on May 28.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sources, "A single date for the polls is to be announced for the elections. They will be held before July 28."
