PM Modi congratulates Kumaraswamy, gives his best to alliance

New Delhi [India], May 23 :
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated newly sworn-in Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

Prime Minister spoke to Kumaraswamy on a telephone and extended his best wishes to him on taking oath as the Karnataka Chief Minister.

Prime Minister Modi also wished newly elected Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara for his tenure ahead.

Prime Minister Modi also took to Twitter and said, "I congratulate Shri @hd_kumaraswamy Ji and @DrParameshwara ji on taking oath as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. My best wishes for their tenure ahead."

It is to be noted here that the BJP had boycotted the ceremony and observed a "Black Day" today. It held protests across the state against the new coalition government, which it has called an "unholy" alliance.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated Kumaraswamy and Parameshwara for their new assignments and hoped that Karnataka will move forward towards peace, progress and prosperity under the new government.

"Congratulations to Shri HD Kumaraswamy and Shri G Parameshwar on taking oath as the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. I hope, Karnataka will move forward towards peace, progress and prosperity under the new Govt," Singh tweeted.

Earlier in the day, Kumaraswamy was sworn-in as the Karnataka chief minister at the head of a JD(S)-Congress coalition government.

The swearing-in ceremony of Kumaraswamy has marked a rare occasion where opposition parties from all over the country set aside their differences to join hands in a show of might against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Centre.
