Moon returns to S Korea from Russia visit

Seoul [South Korea], June 25 : After concluding his three-day state visit to Russia, South Korean President Moon Jae-in returned home on Sunday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Moon held discussions over North Korea's denuclearisation and economic cooperation.

Moon and his wife Kim Jong-sook departed from Rostov-on-Don after they rooted for the South Korean national soccer team, which lost to Mexico 2-1, at the FIFA World Cup in Russia, Yonhap reported.

During his June 20 summit with Putin, the two leaders agreed to work together for maintaining peace in the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.

They also decided to work on free trade agreement by launching negotiations.

"To achieve the goal of US$30 billion in trade and 1 million in the number of visitors between the two countries by 2020, the two leaders agreed to work for practical cooperation that can actually benefit the people of the two countries," Yonhap quoted Moon's office as saying.
The two sides will conduct a joint study to check the feasibility of cross-border energy projects involving North Korea.

They also signed Memorandums of Understandings (MoUs) to expand cooperation in energy, industry and investment.

Moon's trip to Russia came after the historic summit between United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore.

On June 12, the two leaders also signed a post-summit joint declaration, according to which Kim committed for 'complete denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula' and Trump pledged 'security guarantees' to the North.
